Director, Data Delivery

This position reports to the VP of Enterprise Applications, who owns all development. In 2016, the company began an organizational change, moving from a siloed structure into a flatter organization, consolidating a number of areas. They are now matrix-based, with multiple ‘practices’. This position is a Director level role, and leadership ability is the key.
Indianapolis, IN
Given their legacy systems, acquisitions, etc., OA uses a hub and spoke’ approach to retrieving data. They use this concept:
  • Data at rest – How do you model the data stores? What is the quickest way to access the data through the hub & spoke? SQL stored procedures, etc.
  • Data movement – Informatica, ETL
  • Data exposure – Mulesoft for service integration, custom services
One challenge is the lack of data governance in the hub & spoke. When users ask for data, the team determines how to access and deliver it.
Last year, the company hired a VP of Data Strategy to build an analytics team; this data delivery position will interface heavily with the analytics team. Once the data is exposed, the analytics team can then use it. The analytics team handles BI, is rolling out visualization tools, and managing data governance.
The data delivery leader’s team is responsible for the data pipeline – how best to access the data through the hub & spoke.
They will manage a team of 7 – 10 on three teams: data modeling, ETL, and MuleSoft. This will include others who are managers; they will be a ‘leader of leaders’.
